Part of Darkwood Education is our SID (School Issued Device) Policy. This comes attached to our School Issued Devices that we may provide for Educational Use.
Terms. Darkwood Education - "We" "Administrator" "Local Administrator" "Teacher". You/Student - "You" "Student" "School Account".
By utilizing a School Issued Device (SID), the student and their parent/guardian automatically agree to the policies outlined in this document.
Prohibited Content: Users are prohibited from searching for, accessing, or distributing inappropriate topics, including but not limited to: Obscene material (Pornography), Hate Speech (Racism), Bullying, or Harassment.
Academic Exceptions: This policy may be waived for specific academic research only if the student has received prior written permission via email from a teacher.
Authorized Access: The school-issued account is the only authorized account for the SID. Logging into personal accounts is strictly prohibited.
Device Modification: Users may not attempt to remove MDM profiles, jailbreak, root, or downgrade the Operating System.
Software Restrictions: Only educational applications may be downloaded. The installation of bloatware, hacking/exploit tools, or secondary security agents intended to disrupt district monitoring is prohibited.
Hardware Responsibility: Students must not intentionally damage the device. We expect the SID to be returned in good health with storage cleared of non-essential files.
Wear and Tear: Minor cosmetic wear (light scratches) is acceptable and will not result in a charge, provided the device remains fully functional.
Financial Liability: The District may charge for the full replacement cost of the device for "Sufficient Damage," including cracked screens, missing keys, non-functional touchpads, or damaged charging ports.
Insurance: Parents/Guardians may purchase District Device Insurance to reduce the financial impact of sufficient damage.
No Expectation of Privacy: Students acknowledge that they have little to no privacy on School Issued Devices. The District reserves the right to monitor account and device usage to ensure safety.
Right to Recall: The District may request the return of a device at any time. Students have the right to request information regarding any "Flags" or evidence that triggered a recall.
Reporting Protocol: If a device is missing, the student must immediately contact an Administrator via Email or Ticket.
Verification: Reports must include Guardian contact info, student email, the 5-digit PIN, and Device Type.
Theft Protection: Devices reported as missing in locations other than the home or "frequent locations" (e.g., libraries) may have replacement fees waived. The device will remain remotely locked until recovered.
Standard Return: Students not returning to the District must ship the SID to the designated District Location within 21 days of the school year's end.
Extensions: One (1) return extension may be requested, provided a specific return date is established.
Academic Incentive: Students achieving High Honor Roll or other approved milestones may be granted permanent ownership of their device. Upon approval, the District will remotely wipe all school software/MDM profiles and return the device to a "factory" state for personal use.
Non-Compliance: Devices not returned within 21 days (without a granted extension or ownership) will be remotely disabled. Continued non-compliance may result in a police report and financial liability for the student/guardian.
The District reserves the right to update this policy at any time. Users may request email notifications for every instance this policy is amended.
